Have any of the Legislators been involved in the inland port discussions? Curious as to the pro and cons. Even though the Salt Lake mayor was very active in discussions I haven’t noticed the reaction from the hill. It will be a major issue when it becomes reality. Highway safety becomes a major concern with a increase in truck traffic which involves safety issues and highway damage due to increase in trucks. We have a total of 92 ports of entry in the USA which include deep sea ports as well inland ports. I have no idea what studies have taken place . Safety and highway preservation becomes all important. It will increase our interstate travel as well as the need for a increase in law enforcement to check trucks for safety and weight compliance. A field trip for legislators would be very helpful to see the operations and what safety programs are in place.. I hope you and the legislators are involved. I read some of the concern from the city but we need involvement from the hill. I am not up to date
if meetings are being held to involve state and city officials but I hope so. This will be a major impact to Salt Lake and our state wide highways.
I have seen nothing in the papers but I don’t read them often and could have missed any articles printed. The increase in trucks traffic will be on all the interstate system. Just curious. I might have missed articles involving the Legislators and the inland ports.
